Koombea in 2018: A Year in Review

Koombea — a company that started out building applications for early-stage startups with only a few team members, so multifaceted that it challenges the definition of the word “company” — accomplished many noteworthy things this past year.

Here are the iterations, small additions, and incremental moves that Koombea made in 2018.

Koombea in 2018

We expanded physically by opening new offices.

This year, Koombea expanded the presence of its employees on a global scale.

We opened our second office in Chicago, and there are now also several employees who call Washington, D.C., home.

According to Koombea CEO Jonathan Tarud, “Chicago has become the number one city for corporate relocations due to its thriving tech scene, so we’re excited to play a role in that movement.”

Our team is growing fast.

The diversity of our employees is the key to our success. This past year we intentionally brought on team members who had a wide variety of past experiences building the world’s leading digital solutions.

As we built out the team, we were diligent in ensuring that each new addition to the Koombea family embodies our core values, and is able to complement the skills of existing team members flawlessly.

All of these efforts have enabled us to broaden our service offerings while enhancing collaboration and team cohesiveness.

We continued to partner with more of today’s leading software and mobile app innovators.

In 2018 we partnered with the leading companies in HiTech, IoT, Retail, MedTech, and FinTech to build and launch technology solutions that disrupted established processes and created revolutionary products and services within their industries.

Businesses of all sizes chose Koombea due to our team’s deep expertise in development and our sector-specific knowledge. Doing so allowed these businesses to focus on their own core strategies while leaving the development and deployment of technical solutions to Koombea.

We’re proud to be the go-to mobile and web app development partner for the following businesses. Visit our website to see a more complete list of our clients.

The team will enter 2019 extremely proud of these partnerships, as they represent the diverse skill sets of our team and our ability to adapt to varying technical requirements and challenges.

We built industry-leading Retail and eCommerce solutions.

Koombea also became a Shopify Plus Partner in 2018, reinvesting in its partnership with Shopify in order to gain a competitive edge in the eCommerce market and further enable our retail customers to scale their businesses.

We adopted new technologies and spurred innovation.

With 2019 on the horizon, we are excited to continue working with new technologies in order to broaden our offerings while strengthening the quality of our work.

In 2018, we honed our expertise in VueJS, the open-source JavaScript framework used for building user interfaces and single-page applications.

We also took on more ReactNative projects. ReactNative is a JavaScript framework for writing real, natively rendering mobile applications for iOS and Android. By continuing to work on these projects, we are furthering our team’s profound knowledge of the intricate differences between iOS and Android app development.

Additionally, we enhanced the efficiency of our own internal processes by building bots to streamline things wherever possible.

We formally opened and expanded a DevOps department.

This year we opened and expanded our DevOps department, which enables us to offer DevOps services to clients.

We primarily work using AWS cloud services, but we’ve also worked with Heroku, DigitalOcean, Linode, and others. Our DevOps team prepares development, staging, and production environments on demand, and is as scalable as each project requires.

The team also sets up a continuous integration process in which anyone can make new builds and deployments without needing to have dedicated DevOps.

We further strengthened our community.

Our commitment to our community is also demonstrated in the range of projects we have hosted and participated in for local professionals and businesses.

In 2018, we hosted and sponsored WordPress events, Python meetups, Machine Learning workshops, sponsored hackathons, and more. These events distinguished Koombea as a leader in development both in Colombia and globally. Additionally, we’ve been able to connect with top developers, who have since become invaluable members of the Koombea family.

We are also grateful to be partnering with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and for playing a role in funding a number of programs in pediatric research, Family Services, advocacy, and charity care.

Additional highlights:

Koombea was proudly included in the following lists in 2018:

“As 2018 comes to a close, our team here at Koombea has never been stronger, more qualified, or more eager to help businesses bring their web and mobile app ideas to reality. This past year we invested in building out our team and adopting new technologies. In 2019, our aim is to connect with like-minded businesses looking to get the most out of their digital solutions in order to modernize their strategies and boost their bottom lines. We can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store!”

– Jonathan Tarud, Koombea CEO

Thank You

Our accomplishments in 2018 were made possible by the dedication of many individuals ranging from clients to employees, to mentors, and more.

Looking back at our own achievements, our greatest discoveries have all resulted from the people who have shared their knowledge, resources, and talents with Koombea.
